September Bullet Journal Set Up

By this point, y’all know about my planner obsession.

It’s not for everyone but it’s a lifestyle.

And you also know I can’t keep it to one planner.  Last month I introduced my bullet journal and it is back for another month.  I’m in it for now instead of my Recollections Organize It! binder because I haven’t had the time to make, print or cut September planner stickers or inserts.

So, without further ado, on to the September set up.

September Month at a Glance

I set up the Month-at-a-Glance the same way I did in August.

I put a monthly memories page on the left side of the spread, for any thing that I want to commemorate from the month.

Then, on the right, I have a running calendar of the month with my color coded events: red for bills, orange for school, yellow for personal, green for holidays, and blue for birthdays.  And, I added a new category this month, events, and they are purple.

At the bottom of that page I have my goals for the month and the mini calendar for October.  Coincidentally, I realized after I took the pictures for the post that my October calendar was wrong, I used September’s dates.  I ended up covering it with sticker paper and re-drawing it correctly.  Story of my life.

Blog and Shop Spreads

The only monthly collections I have this month are my blog and shops collections.

Last month I also did Instagram challenges and habits but I found that I don’t actually do the Instagram challenges.  I like the idea of doing Instagram challenges but I’m just not organized enough yet to actually complete one so I’m not including it this month, and I’ll try again next month.  And, as far as habits, I tend to track them on a daily basis.  That means I don’t look at the monthly habit tracker that often, at least I’m going to try , in upcoming weeks, to find a better way to track my habits though.

But, the blog and shops collections are back for another month.  I’m not yet organized enough to keep up with the blog plan, but I like having it there for reference.  The shop collection is more of a list of to dos now, and specific projects for my Lolita and stationary shops.

September Weekly Spread

And finally is the week and day.

I’m not gonna lie, this is my least favorite weekly page in, well this is my least favorite weekly page ever.  I hate it.  The only thing I like is the quote “You don’t want no problems, want no problems with me!”  It’s the hook of the new Chance the Rapper song, “No Problems” and I’m quite fond of that song.  However, from the color to the lettering to the decorations on the page, all of it is all bad.  I am definitely going to try something different next week because I don’t even like looking at this week’s page.

The daily pages are much nicer.  I still set up the days the same way, day and date flag, and hourly schedule, but now I’m leaving the bottom space open to free form the meals and to do lists more.

I think it may be a mistake to set up my weeks one at a time, instead of all at one, because it leave too much potential for me to never plan the week.  in October, I’m going to set up all my weeks at once, so I don’t have that problem.

And, that’s all for now.  I know it’s not much but I waited until the last minute to set up my bullet journal so it had to be pretty bare this month.  Don’t worry I’ll do better, next month.

Happy Birthday, Yin

First things first, Yin is my best friend and better half @rebellaurel on Instangram.  She’s probably private right now, because she’s always going back and forth from private to public depending on giveaways, but trust me she’s adorable.

We call each other Yin & Yang because we’re complete opposites, but we’re perfect for each others, hence the best friend/soul mate thing.  It’s totally true.

Anyway, I’ve been a quarter century old since February, and I’ve been waiting for her to catch up.

She finally has!

Her birthday was in early August, the weekend before I went on my St. Thomas trip actually.  If you haven’t read about that, check out yesterday’s post.

Needless too say, I was crazy excited.  If you saw my August Planner post, then you know, I dedicated a whole week’s layout to the 25th anniversary of this girl’s birth.

The Birthday Spread, in case you missed it.

Enough of that, let’s get on to the birthday festivities.

We started out best friend birthday at our favorite tea shop in Louisiana, English Tea Room in Covington.

If you check my Instagram, @himeblackonyx, you’ll see we go there all the time.

We went pretty early, like noon, and got breakfast at the tea room, because we had plans all day.

After tea, we went to Michael’s.  As her birthday present, I bought my Yin the Happy Planner punch, because I have made a crazy planner girl out of her.  What? I wasn’t going to be the only planner addict in our house.  Besides, It’s only fair since she got me all obsessed with scented wax.

We just hung around Michael’s long enough to kill time before the movie.  We saw Star Trek Beyond at the Covington Movie Tavern.

Ok, Movie Tavern is everything.  It’s a movie theater, with a full-service restaurant.  You sit in your seat, and they bring you a meal, or drinks, or appetizers.  If you have one in your city, go!

Then, to round out our day, some of the girls my Yin works with invited us over for game night.

They baked her a birthday pumpkin pie, because she doesn’t do cake.  Weird, but she’s mine, what can I do.

And that was my girl’s birthday.  I just loved spending time with her, and watching her become a big girl!

Dream Vacation

Now that school is back in session, I’m missing vacation more than ever.

I squandered most of my break at the law school.  I did pro bono work with high school students, teaching them about law and helping them do a mock trial.  And I took two summer school classes, at the same time, because I’ma humongous nerd, and I like it like that. Then, when that was over, I was a teaching assistant for incoming students during their summer pre-law classes.

And that was 90% of my summer, from two weeks after spring semester ended to two weeks before the fall semester started.

Needless to say, I needed a rest before I got down to business again.

Enter The Boyfriend, making himself useful.  He’s actually from the U.S. Virgin Islands, St. Thomas to be exact, and he had just moved back there after living in Atlanta.  He thought it would be a great idea for me to come visit him and his family on the island, and I totally agreed, of course.

I left the week after my Roommate’s birthday.  It was the first time we we’re together for her birthday and it was kind of a big deal.

I had a super late flight, and I had to drive to the airport, so I started my trip in my super comfortable Rue21 animal ear onesie.

Planning in the Airport

While I was curled up at the airport waiting for my flight, I got some last minute planning done in my Recollection Organize It! binder.

Then it was time to fly.

When I got on the plane, I was still wearing my onesie.

And when I got off the plane, I had on my swimsuit and cover-up.

St. Thomas is the gateway island for the U.S. Virgin Island.  I think that is because it is the only island with the public airport and all of the cruise ships dock there when they come in.

My first day in town, we went to Lindbergh Bay Beach.

Lindbergh Bay Beach is right outside the airport, not even five minutes away.  And the Boyfriend’s mama has a restaurant just off the beach.

I couldn’t believe the view from the overlook we drove by on the way to and from the house everyday.

The Boyfriend took me to Water Island, just the two of us.  It was so fun, and quiet, and calm and pretty much perfect.  I’m such a snuggly monster and I got to have the Boyfriend all too myself.  There were a lot of people at the house, his mom and dad, a cousin, a nephew and three family friends.

We had to take a ferry to Water Island, and did some Pokemon hunting on Pokemon Go.Riding the Ferry to Water IslandRiding the Ferry to Water Island

Before I knew it, I was back on the tarmac, flying home.20160819_155804

Needless to say, vacation was amazing.  Now that I’m home, I can’t wait to go back.  Next time I go, I plan to get out more, and take more pictures.  I was such a homebody during vacation, waking up late and going to bed early, and only going outside when I had to.

If you’ve never been to St. Thomas, or the U.S. Virgin Islands, you should look into taking a trip there.  It’s a United States territory so U.S. citizens don’t even need a passport.  And it’s just plain beautiful and fun.

Thank you for the trip Boyfriend.

Back to School

I cannot believe we are here!  August is over, vacation is over, and school is starting again.  Well, school has started for me, and I am on into my second year of law school.  How crazy is that?

I feel the need to warn you, I love back to school.  The start of a new academic year, new wardrobe, new school supplies!

If my planner should have told you anything it’s that I am a sucker for stationary.

Pens, paper, washi tape, notebooks, pencil cases, binders, all that is right up my alley, especially if it’s pretty, or pink, or glittery, or gold. Yes, and please.

This school year is no different.  I have my new school year goals, I have my adorable school supplies, and I have a new study system that I hope will do me well.

So, first things first, my goals.  I made five new school year S.M.A.R.T. goals that I hope to accomplish this year.

  1. Get straight As for the semester.
  2. Stay caught up with all my readings.
  3. Create a study system and get better study habits.
  4. Take care of myself by eating right, sleeping enough, and drinking lots of water.
  5. Work out five days a week.

Now let’s talk about something fun stuff, SCHOOL SUPPLIES!  Oh my goodness, I love stationary.  The best part of new school years are the school supplies.

I ordered most of my supplies from Staples.  The prices were amazing.  Literally, I had Wal-Mart, Office Depot, and Staples open and put the same things in my cart simultaneously and then ordered from the place with the lowest prices.  I’m not being sponsored by Staples or anything, I just got a really good deal on all my school supplies from Staples and I couldn’t keep it to myself.
All my new writing implementsAll my new paper products

I had a lot of fun decorating my binders.

My covered binders

I made the letters and icons on the covers with my Silhouette.  I used the Princess and the Frog font that I downloaded forever ago, because it is my favorite.  I had to fix a few of the letters, like the “T” in “Statutory” and the “R” in “Procedure” because they rubbed off.  To fix that, I covered the letters and icons with Modge Podge as a sealant.  I let it set overnight and applied a couple of coats to make sure my binders are safe.

I have yet to go school shopping.  I need a free weekend with nothing to do, so I can wander effectively.  And I still have to put all of my old clothes in the cleaners but we’ll jump that hurdle when we come to it.

Are any of y’all in school? Or sending kids back to school? Or just a stationary addict obsessed with back to school season?  Let me know.

Back on Track

I cannot begin to explain to you how tired I am right now.  I’ve started running again and I forgot how hard it is.

In my younger days I ran USA Track and Field.  Then I ran for my high school.  I stopped competing when I had my spinal fusion surgery, even though I made the track team at my college, I never competed for them.

So I haven’t run, or trained to run, since 2009, maybe 2010.

Let me just say, when you’ve been out of it, you lose it.

I was doing my usual warm-up, the one I used to do with my club team when I first star and out of breath, and miserable.  was sweating, and out of breath, and miserable.  But it was the best workout I have had in a long time.

So, in case you’re wondering, I did half of a Texas mile which is when you run the curves of the track and the, when you get to the entrance to the stadium seating you exit the track, run up the stadium steps to the top, jog across the top to the end, jog down the steps and back to the track to repeat on the other side.

Full disclosure, I jogged when I was on the track, and walked when I was on the stadium steps.  What can I say, I’m really out of shape.

My goal is to be able to run the whole Texas mile by the end of the month.  A full mile is 4 laps around a standard track, like the ones at high schools and colleges.  So my full Texas mile will be four laps, the way that I described.  I’m only running at the track Tuesdays and Thursdays, but I go to the gym Monday and Wednesday and Friday is a stretch day.

I’m not so much worried about losing weight, as much as getting in shape.  I would love to lose a little weight, especially in my tummy, but I really just want to be healthy.

Anybody else into running?  Got any tips for me? If you’re on a fitness journey, like I am, or you’re trying to lose wight, let me know.  I would love to connect with others, maybe get some accountability partners.

Ok, I’m off to ice my knees.  Talk to you later.
