Hello again, and Happy New Year!
I’ve missed y’all and this little blog while I’ve been away. And I’m glad to FINALLY be back.
So, I won’t waste too much time talking about where I’ve been and what I’ve been doing, no where and nothing, and instead we can talk about more important things: TEA!
This past weekend my Yin and I took a trip to Covington to visit our favorite tea shop, English Tea Room. It’s been our place since we moved here almost 2 years ago and it’s our monthly ritual to make the hour and a half drive to go drink tea, knit and generally be princesses.
We went last Saturday to finally do our birthday celebration for mine from back in February. Basically, we get tea, we order food and we lounge for hours at the tea house like Victorian ladies would have.
I’ll tell you all about the tea room, with pictures and a review, in case you ever find yourself in Louisiana and craving tea, but that will come later in the week.
For now, it’s all about Mission Impossible: Tea Menu!
English Tea Room has over 200 teas on their menu, black, flavored black, Oolong, green, white, Pu-erh, herbal, fruit, Rooibos, Chai, organic, mate, and special blends. And they add teas all the time.
And, of course, Yin and I have vowed to try them all, because we’re psychotic.
The system at the shop, when you order a pot of tea you get a free refill and the refill can be any kind, not exclusively the one your ordered the first time, helps us in trying to taste them all.
But what hinders us is that we both already found our dream teas, and that’s all we want to drink now. Yin loves Maan tea, a Rooibos blend that tastes like caramel candy. My tea of choice is Paris which is a black tea with black currant, vanilla and Bergamot.
Already having favorites makes it so hard to try new things but we managed to branch out on this trip.
I ordered Mocha Rocha Rooibos, described as “Ethiopian mocha coffee highlights with lightly sweet chocolate caramel notes”. It was delicious! You can really smell the chocolate and caramel and the tea is bold and flavorful.
The second tea I ordered was Royal Bengal Tiger, but I didn’t drink that. My first cup was bitter, probably from over-brewing, but I didn’t like it too much even when cream and sugar was added. But I did drink the tea Yin ordered, Lady Londonberry. That one was much better, and we switched pots. Lady Londonberry is described as “Good flowery, malty cup with hints of strawberry and lemon”. Yin ordered it because she loves strawberries and lemons but she ended up like the Royal Bengal Tiger I ordered, despite the bitterness. Just one of the benefits of having a yin to your yang!
That puts me two teas down, counting Paris, I’ve tried all of 3, only 197 more to go!
