English Tea Room

Last week I talked about my mission to try every variety of tea offered at my favorite “local” tea shop and I thought you might like to know little about the shop itself.

English Tea Room is in historic downtown Covington, in an artsy district with specialty shops, boutiques, art galleries and the like.  There is a barber shop in the neighborhood that’s 1950’s pin-up themed, to give you an idea.  And Covington itself is a bedroom community for older folks that’s a pretty even mix of vintage and modern, there are cupcake shops run out of old homes and a megaplex movie theater that serves full meals.  It’s the type of community that hosts an annual art festival in the streets, if that tells you anything.

The tea house itself is everything you would expect.  It’s chock full of knickknacks and antiques and tea cups and tea accessories.

There are tons of old photos and quirky little signs.

And different rooms for tea service, each with their own name and little theme.

Outside there is even more decor.

In the front there’s a phone booth, perfect for pictures.

And in the back there’s a rose garden, that, when it’s in bloom, is so precious.20170311_164032

English Tea Room hosts parties, like bridal showers, and children’s teas and also has its own events calendar for themed events, like a Downtown Abbey Dinner and a Christmas tea.

Breakfast Quiche

They serve food, there’s a full food menu available all day.  I ALWAYS get the breakfast quiche, because who doesn’t love a well made quiche.  Yin gets the Buckingham Bake, also breakfast, but there are salad and sandwich offerings, soup and the choice of several High Tea services.

English Scones

One thing Yin and I can’t live without is the scones.  I’m a traditional vanilla scone myself, my Yin likes the lemon lavender with clotted cream and lemon curd.

The staff is always super friendly and attentive.  We’ve even met the owners on several occasions and they’s always so kind and welcoming.

I think the best part though, is the rewards program.  Every time we go to the tea house we get rewards like free pots of tea or free food, just because we’re regular customers.  Makes us even more willing to come back.

While there are other tea houses in our state, and we might eventually get around to seeing some of them, English Tea Room is out spot, for now, and we’re very happy with that.
